For the first time, a woman will head Lexington’s community corrections. That announcement came Monday from Mayor Linda Gorton.
Mayor Gorton named Lisa Farmer, with almost 20 years of experience in Lexington corrections, to oversee the more than 1000 bed jail. Farmer takes over for Steve Haney who retired this summer.
The mayor said Farmer has an outstanding record, a broad range of experience, and is well prepared to lead the detention center. Public Safety Commissioner Ken Armstrong said Farmer’s, quote “style of leadership and her progressive thought process will be critical to the detention center staff as they address both longstanding concerns, and new challenges.”
Farmer thanked Gorton and Armstrong for their confidence in her ability to be Community Corrections director. She will begin serving as interim director immediately. Her appointment would be effective November 23, pending council approval.?
