It’s a traditional topic at Lexington’s city hall each October; discuss the government’s plan for snow removal well before the first snowfall.
With a return to in-person instruction for Lexington schools still a question mark, Streets and Roads Director Rob Allen said it’s important to make sure children don’t play in streets. “We had incidents several years ago where there’s was a snow fort in the middle of a cul-de-sac and if the driver had not seen the child at the last moment, it would have been just a horrible tragedy,” said Allen.
Allen said his crews and state crews have agreed to help each other out with routes, if necessary. “We have a mutual agreement with Kentucky District Number 7 that if there is a quarantine or an outbreak with either agency that we will assist each other within Fayette County. This does not include the interstate and this does not include New Circle, but it does include county roads that would be serviced by the state,” explained Allen.
Allen told members of a council committee last week the 2019-2020 winter season was light when it came to snow removal. He said there were only two full mobilizations. Allen added there are no plans, at this point, to purchase additional salt for the upcoming winter time.
