Lexington's Legacy Trail Recognized For Final Completion

visitlex.com

After more than a decade of planning and construction, the Legacy Trail was recognized by Lexington officials Thursday for its completion.

When word came in 2007 the World Equestrian Games would be coming to Lexington, citizens expressed an interest in a marque trail to walk, run, and ride on long after the equine championships were gone.  And so, a ribbon cutting downtown marked completion of the last 1 and a half mile segment of the Legacy Trail.

It connects the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden in the city’s east end, where the hall of fame jockey lived and worked, to the Kentucky Horse Park where he’s buried.  Murphy won the Kentucky Derby three times.

By next year the Legacy Trail is expected to connect to Town Branch Commons Trail downtown, completing 22 miles of uninterrupted trails.?
