The city of Lexington is sending a blueprint for economic recovery to Governor Beshear. It comes as the bluegrass community works to resume business activity during COVID-19 times.
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said the plan, which covers everything from agriculture to healthcare to arts and culture to college and high school athletics, includes 330 recommendations. She noted it’s not a government orchestrated effort. “I want everyone to understand it has been driven by the private sector with the goal of re-opening our economy gradually and responsibly,” explained Gorton.
Beginning the second week of March, Gorton said unemployment levels started growing to rival that not seen for almost a hundred years. The mayor thanked co-chair Luther Deaton, president of Central Bank. Gorton also thanked the citizens of Lexington for taking the healthy at home recommendations to heart.
The economic recovery meetings covered various sectors of the business, social, and recreational communities. Those include entrepreneurial, faith based, airport, equine tourism, and all kinds of retailers. Among the many recommendations, the restaurants and bars subcommittee suggested the bars that don’t have kitchens and don’t normally sell food should be permitted to sell cocktails without selling food.?
