Lexington's Sewer Overhaul Not Impacted By Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic is affecting all kinds of businesses, governmental functions, and social activities.  But, one large scale project in Lexington is not seeing adverse impacts.  The city is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on a federally mandated sewer system overhaul.

Division of Water Quality Director Charlie Martin said fewer cars and pedestrians is benefitting a two mile sewer replacement project along Bolivar, Avenue of Champions, and Euclid.  “The fact that the university unexpectedly obviously has ended classes for this year, that has allowed us to move a little quicker than what we had originally intended to,” said Martin.

UK has announced on-line only instruction will run through the summer, with no decision yet about the fall semester.    The sewer project near the UK campus is anticipated to run about two years.
