Lexington Mayor Talks About Snow Response

kentucky.com

The Central Kentucky region got a coating of snow over the last 24 hours.  Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton began a briefing Friday by saying ‘winter finally caught up with Lexington.’

Mayor Gorton said city crews got a chance to break in the new salt barn by working to clear roadways of snow.  Police report one fatality that was partly weather related.

The mayor said there were also eight injury collisions, 41 non-injury collisions, and 22 motorist assists between 2:00 a.m and 9:00 a.m. today.  With temperatures expect to rise only to the mid 30’s and dip below freezing tonight, black ice and a few flurries could create some driving issues.

Lexington Homelessness Prevention and Intervention Director Polly Ruddick reports many shelters are full and there’s a need for additional socks, hats, gloves, and hand warmers.?
