A postal service representative in Lexington said it virtually takes year-round planning to make it this busiest time of the year go smoothly.
Postal Service Spokesperson Susan Wright said on the busiest days, workers in Lexington can anticipate processing some 400,000 letters, flats, and packages. Wright added 340 full time employees along with another 50 holiday period workers will be clocking in. “We do hire our seasonal employees, keeping in mind we hope that they have a career in mind with the postal service eventually,” Wright explained.
Wright says the “informed delivery” service is a way customers can closely track their packages before they reach the front porch. While the number of hand written letters and cards has declined in recent years, Wright says package volume has increased.
