Lexington Mayor Supports Jim Gray's Transportation Appointment

The new state secretary of transportation has extensive knowledge of Kentucky’s second largest city, something viewed as a plus by Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton.  Two-term Lexington Mayor Jim Gray is stepping into the head job of the state transportation cabinet. Governor-elect Andy Beshear announced a number of appointments Monday.

Gorton said firsthand knowledge can’t be overlooked. “You know, I’m the mayor of Lexington-Fayette County and now we have a secretary of transportation who understands Fayette County and its transportation needs.  And I think that is a positive,” noted Gorton.

Gorton added Gray has admitted he’s got a lot to learn, since he hasn’t served in every Kentucky county.  But, Gorton said Gray is a quick learner.  Also named Monday to head the State Department of Veterans Affairs is former Lexington Fire Chief Keith Jackson.?
