A number of downtown Lexington streets will be seeing some repair work before the end of the year. Angela Poe with Environmental Quality and Public Works said crews will be fixing rough spots, after utility work, and milling and paving
Poe said several areas are in need.
“It is a bumpy ride through a lot of downtown and some of that’s because the roads have been patched and need a treatment where they are smooth again and we’ve got some steel plates around downtown where there’s holes, but we want to let people drive during the day,” said Poe.
Poe said several blocks in downtown Lexington will be receiving attention, but not all at the same time. The city provides updated road work and closure information at traffic ticker website. Poe said road work often causes traffic congestion.
“Anything that impacts the road and the flow of traffic on the road can absolutely cause delays. We do a lot of work and we ask contractors to do a lot of work during non-peak hours if it’s at all possible or even at night to try to minimize the impact on traffic,” Poe said.
Work scheduled between now and the end of the year includes roadway restoration and paving around the Rupp Arena expansion.
