The Lexington Public Library Board of Trustees has named Heather Dieffenbach as its new permanent director. Dieffenbach, a Kentucky native from Glasgow originally has been serving as acting director since March. Former director Ann Hammond moved to California.
Dieffenbach said her mother was a library director so her childhood was spent among books. “The library was always a place where I felt like I belonged, a place that was a second home for me. When I had my first son, that changed. My 15 year old son is autistic and I realized after taking him to the library that it was not a place where he felt like he belonged,” said Dieffenbach.
Dieffenbach said her first priority is to start work on a library diversity and inclusion plan. She that will involve a several month process.?
Dieffenbach said circulation at the Lexington Public Library system is the highest in its history , that includes E-Books.
