Lexington Mayor Urges Caution With Bitter Cold Temperatures

Stu Johnson

Citizens across Kentucky are preparing for the coldest temperatures thus far in 2019.  The outdoor temperature gauge got down into the single digits early Thursday morning  and will be equally icy  Thursday night through Friday.

Lexington citizens who typically receive garbage collection Thursday will see trucks coming by on Friday. There will be no yard waste collection this week.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said it’s a time to look out for each other. “Caring for our fellow citizens is very important.  This is our opportunity to do just that by being mindful of the needs of our neighbors and those around us during these very cold days and nights,” said Gorton.

All pets should come inside and Gorton said animal control workers can provide temporary crates upon request.

Temperatures are predicted to warm to the upper 50’s by Sunday.
