Federal Workers Protest Outside McConnell's Lexington Office

Stu Johnson

Representatives from a number of federal government agencies staged a protest Wednesday at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Lexington office.

They gathered to express frustration at the month-long partial government shutdown.

Among those participating in the central Kentucky protest was Census Bureau worker Scarlett Key, who is going into her fifth week off the job.  She feels fortunate to get unemployment checks. “I had to pay  $518  to get my car fixed, so had I not had the unemployment come in, I’ve gotten three checks already, then I wouldn’t be able to do that.  But, there are a lot of them that are not getting their unemployment yet,” said Key.
