Spraygrounds Growing in Lexington

kentucky.com

Aquatic options for Lexington citizens continue to expand. A number of zero depth aquatic centers opened this past holiday weekend. A new spray ground is located at Castlewood Park. Another playground with water is scheduled to open this Saturday at Douglas Park.

Lexington Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Michael Johnson says fewer staff are required at spray grounds because there are no lifeguards required. “We still have maintenance staff there and at the pools there will be lifeguards in the area, but no there are no lifeguards or anything like that. Some of the bigger benefits are longer hours, operation of a longer season. We open them earlier than the pools and then can keep them open later in the fall,” said Johnson.

The Memorial Day weekend found aquatic centers at Southland, Woodland, Tates Creek, and Castlewood seeing their first swimmers of the summer season.
