Lexington’s city council is set to approve a 10-year master plan for community parks. It’s been two years in the making and involved 3000 citizens.
The parks master plan is a guidebook for things like programs, facilities, operations, and land acquisition. Consultant Pat Hoagland made a presentation to the council Tuesday. “It’s not just a capital facilities plan. That’s what a lot of people will focus on. It focuses on the next ten years and beyond,” said Hoagland.
Hoagland says the plan includes $5 million a year over a decade for parks. Parks and Recreation Director Monica Conrad says it also calls for a new regional park. “We would certainly look at that as we’re talking about development in the future and neighborhoods coming in the future, so that’s always on our horizon,” noted Conrad.
Council Member Amanda Mays Bledsoe believes some existing green spaces including golf courses or soccer fields may be used for new purposes.
