Lexington Mayor Jim Gray has appointed a local attorney from a political family to fill the seventh district seat on the Urban County Council. Preston Worley participated in an oath of office ceremony Thursday morning at city hall.
The 33 year old will fulfill the unexpired term of Jennifer Scutchfield, who resigned this month to take a job with the State Board of Elections. It’s a first time in office for Worley who says he plans to seek a full council term.
Preston Worley’s father Ed served in both local and state government; first as Richmond city manager more than three decades ago and then as state senator. “You know dad’s been out of politics for a while, but obviously we look to all of our parents and their experiences for great guidance,” said Worley.
Although Worley says people in the seventh district are worried about violent and property crimes, he doesn’t have a top priority yet. And, he says, he expects parks will also be a key issue.
