Leaders Discuss Snow Plan During Hot September

kentucky.com

The thermometer may still be reaching into the upper 80’s this week, but Lexington city officials are talking snow at city hall.  A council committee took a look at the city’s snow plan Tuesday.

Citizens this winter will have an opportunity to better gauge road conditions from the comfort of their homes.  Environmental Quality and Public Works Commissioner Dowell Hoskins-Squier says cameras will be on at designated intersections.  “You can look at the camera view, whichever way it may be pointing and you can see roadway condition, how much snow is on the road on any given road, so you could go to the Man O War camera and see how much snow is on Man O War,”

Hoskins-Squier says the camera technology will not help determine conditions getting out of particular subdivisions.  Hoskins-Squier says four street segments have been added to snow removal routes, but none are dead end streets.  “Any street that was a culdesac, we’re not going to add that to the snow plan, because it’s difficult for our snow plow to get down a culdesac and especially turn around if there’s cars parked on the side of the street,” noted Hoskins-Squier.

The camera viewing can be seen through the city’s web site.?
