Lexington Council Considering a Larger Golf Course Discount for Military

onebeardedgolfer.com

Active military members and veterans would play Lexington’s city owned golf courses for half price under a proposal before city council.  Council member Richard Moloney made the motion for the 50 percent discount for greens and cart fees.  Moloney says a recent national study ranked Lexington low in services to veterans.  “A few years ago we had a council member say we were one of the fattest cities in America," Moloney said.  "You know what, I don’t mind being fat, but when you treat veterans bad I have a serious problem with that. And this is an opportunity to open up the floodgates to show that Lexington can do better.”

Active military, veterans, senior citizens, students, and city employees currently receive a discounted golf rate.   Council member Jennifer Scutchfield was among members asking for more time to study the matter.  “I’m all about let’s help people out and honor our veterans and service members, but let’s get it right instead of just trying to look good,” said Scutchfield.

The proposal was sent to committee for more study.  City Director of Golf Mike Fields says no rate changes are planned for 2016.  He says rounds and revenue are up this year.?
