Lexington Council Committee Approves Winter Snow Plan

usatoday.com

Lexington’s city council is mapping out a snow removal plan for the fast approaching winter season.  Members of the Environmental Quality and Public Works Committee acted this week on recommendations for clearing streets and sidewalks. Council member Kevin Stinnett reminded his colleagues that the plan will come with a cost.  “We’ve got to do some heavy lifting," Stinnett said. "We’ve got to cut some other projects that people want to see funded in fund balance, if we’re going to make this our priority this year."

The snow plan calls for shoveling and snow removal of certain sidewalks along public roadways, as well as hiring private contractors to help with snow removal on four designated routes.  Vice Mayor Steve Kay believes Lexington residents should be ready for more snow this winter.  “I expect that we will continue to learn the lessons about a lot of snow, cause I think we’re gonna keep getting it,” said Kay.

There was also consideration of future policies regarding traffic flow during inclement weather.
