Lexington Mayor and Council Members Remember Ed Lane

lexingtonky.gov

Flowers sat in front of an empty chair Tuesday afternoon at the Lexington Council meeting in memory of former council member Ed Lane. Lane passed away on August 2.  Fellow Council Member Richard Moloney says he remembers how Lane fought for the state’s longest standing business.  “If it wasn’t for Ed we would have shut that Valley View Ferry down and that’s the oldest business in Kentucky," said Moloney. "Ed really had a passion to make sure that stayed open.”

Council member Kevin Stinnett says Ed Lane didn’t fit the typical model of a politician.  He says Lane was constantly optimistic and always a gentleman.    “Everyone up here has disagreed with him," Stinnett said. "The public has disagreed with him, but he never once said a cross word.  He always acted like a gentleman.”

Mayor Gray said Lane brought his business experience and expertise to city hall to fight for Lexington’s businessmen and women.  Gray said Lane’s death saddened and surprised many. Lane died after privately battling cancer for more than two years. A public memorial service is planned for this weekend. ?
