Road Work Commonplace in Lexington this Summer

There are more than a few traffic cones positioned along Lexington area streets this summer.  Traffic delays may frustrate motorists now, but the benefits will be visible in October when the city welcomes the Breeders Cup.

The highly visible road construction projects include widening of a stretch of New Circle, Leestown  and Clays Mill roads.  Part of Versailles Road has seen repaving and most recently, there's been milling and paving along a stretch of Man O'War Boulevard.  That's not including road work planned for subdivisions.  Streets and Roads Deputy Director Rob Allen says those recommendations are expected in September.  "We expect that it's gonna come back with some treatment options that are less expensive than just your traditional paving and milling, and can really extend the life of our residential streets," said Allen.

Allen says an improving economy helps to make these projects possible.  "You know, we had some lean times and pent up demand and both the state and city administrations have worked really hard for cost savings and budgeting," he said.

If all goes well, Allen suspects crews could begin some of the neighborhood street work this fall.?
