Getting an earful, members of a Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council Committee today debated a new noise ordinance. Three years in the making, it was the proposal’s first public review. During that same time, resident Carl Leonard says his neighborhood been harmed by a noisy automotive business. “I’ve been there for 30 years and suddenly in my neighborhood my life, my home is threatened by this noise that we went through the process to try to solve and it failed, the process failed,” said Leonard.The proposal would create a Noise Board which would attempt to work out problems. A great deal of opposition comes from manufacturers. Chris Buzard is with management at Amazon –dot- com, which operates a distribution center in Lexington.
“Any piece of the legislation which would negatively impact our ability to conduct operations would be detrimental to the business to fulfill our service to the customer on a day in day out basis,” said Buzard.
Buzard says trucks run 24- seven out of their Mercer Road plant. Council members did not act on the noise ordinance. It could be taken up again in February.
