The Berea Craft Festival is returning to Madison County this weekend. More than 100 artists will be set up at the Indian Fort Theater for the three-day event starting Friday.

Melissa Gross is Coordinator for the Berea Craft Festival. She said Berea has been a mecca for artists for decades.

“In the late 80s, you know, Berea became the folk arts and crafts capital of Kentucky, and it has continued in that vein, to be supportive of local artists. Be glad for people to come in and see artists at work. And that's just Berea’s history for many, many years,” said Gross.

Gross added that the art and craft festival is one of the biggest economy boosting events in Berea.

“All of our local business owners feel that throughout that weekend, there are thousands of people that come here. And we are hoping that they of course, come to the festival. But we also make every effort to encourage them to spend money in town and in the Madison County area,” said Gross.

Gross said 8,000 to 10,000 people are projected to visit the festival this weekend. With scattered showers and storms predicted through Sunday afternoon, Gross said the event will go on, rain or shine.

The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
