Kentucky Tourism Officials Launch Video Mini-Series Early

The Kentucky Department of Tourism is unveiling an 11 video mini-series to highlight various areas of interest in the Commonwealth. The timing of the release changed with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

Kentucky Tourism Commissioner Mike Mangeot says filming of sights, sounds, and stories across the state took place over the last year or so.  He says, originally, the plan called for a periodic release of videos.

“Our initial plan was to roll it out on a new website twice a week through August.  When the coronavirus hit and everything basically shut down, we felt like we have all this wonderful content that we wanted to share with everybody, so we made the decision to put it out there for everybody to see,” explained Mangeot.

Mangeot says the videos found at the Department of Tourism website, run anywhere from about four minutes to 15 minutes.  He says they cover various topics including music, distilling, photography, African American history, and the equine business.

Mangeot expects many of these sites will see a lot of visitors in time.  “We anticipate there will be a lot of pent up demand for travel when a lot of the restrictions nationally are eased back and as I said, that will happen.  We have to be smart now, but we also want to be prepared when those restrictions do ease and people can begin to travel again, that we’re top of mind,” noted Mangeot.

The state tourism official said the video series is as much intended to be educational and promotional.
