Eighteen years of honoring Hispanic heritage will be celebrated this weekend in downtown Lexington. Festival Latino de Lexington occurs Friday and Saturday evening in the courthouse plaza and Sunday afternoon in Masterson Station Park.
Foundation for Latin American and Latin Culture and Arts Board Member Yamel Patterson-Munoz said a number of new activities are offered this year. “The groups are new. A few of the presentations are new. We always strive to keep it fresh and bring other people and give the opportunities to people who have not been able to present last year to present this year. We’re also going to have some craft vendors,” said Patterson-Munoz.
Patterson-Munoz added the festival focuses on community-wide inclusion. “The same way that we go to the festivals here and we learn the cultures here. We want people to come do that too. The same way that we can all learn to enjoy each other’s culture, I think that is one of the biggest ways that we can be more inclusive and be a more tight knit community,” explained Patterson-Munoz.
The festival also includes live music, dance, visual arts, and authentic cuisine. A health fair will be held Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 at Masterson Station Park.
