The annual Roots & Heritage Festival is this weekend in downtown Lexington. It’s been an early September event for more than three decades.
Making his first trip to the festival is Saho who travels from Florida to Michigan for these types of festivals. Saho said he’s made some 200 trips back to Africa. He said he buys good from America like jewelry and bracelets and take them to Africa to sell. Then, he said, he brings back African goods to sell in America.
It is Saho’s first visit to the Roots & Heritage Festival. It’s a second time for Tonya Williams of Richmond. She said there was a nice crowd last year who bought lots of jewelry and that’s why she’s back this year.
The Roots & Heritage Festival, along Elm Tree Lane, includes a street fair Friday and Saturday. It ends Sunday with a Gospel Celebration in the Lyric Theater.
