Lexington’s Lyric Theater and Cultural Arts Center will remain the home of The Woodsongs Old-Time Radio Hour for at least another five years.
The contract was inked Friday during a ceremony at the historic theatre.
After ten years at the Kentucky Theater, Woodsongs continued its run as a multimedia celebration of grassroots music at the Lyric in 2013.
Founder and folksinger Michael Jonathon says the facility on Elm Tree Lane is uniquely-designed as a national level production venue.
"40,000-plus people have come to the Lyric Theater just to see Woodsongs on a Monday night for the past five years,” said Jonathon. “And that has helped change the public perception of the Lyric Theater.”
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray says the weekly program amplifies the work of the Lyric and shares Lexington with the nation and the world. “The brand of Woodsongs helps to promote the Lyric.
It’s amplifying its brand and that’s a very big deal. When a business promotes its brand then it’s gonna help all of its business and that’s what it’s doing here with the Lyric,” explained Gray.
Woodsongs currently airs on 515 radio stations worldwide as well as on the American Forces Radio Network and public television coast-to-coast.?
NOTE: WEKU is the official "host station" for the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour.
