The 112th annual Kentucky State fair opens Thursday the 18th of August in Louisville. The event, which includes 1.2 million square feet at the Kentucky Exposition Center, has more than enough room to feature more than just the blue-ribbon winners.

Vice President of Communications for the State Fair Board Amanda Storment says that there are new attractions to come out and see this year that have not been at the Louisville event in the past.

One of these is a 100 x 100 foot area that adults will especially love.

“New this year we have a brand new tent called bourbon world, and addition to having some of our quality bourbon, craft beer and some food that they call southern hospitality food.”

Storment says comfort food you wouldn’t expect at a fairgrounds like mac and cheese and greens will be offered in the large tent, and that many local bourbons and beer can be sampled here.

As far as the crucial  fair component of carnival rides, a space will be devoted to the youngest of children, called the "Kid-Around Amusement Park". The centrally-located area will have multiple attractions for kids that would previously have been unable to enjoy typical rides reserved for older crowds.

“In addition to the carnival midway rides, in addition to the Kentucky Kingdom roller coaster amusement park, we have a separate area for smaller children where they can really enjoy their own rides.

She tells us there are special discounts as well, due to excellent sponsorship that is better than years past.

“We have a robust sponsorship program this year, which has allowed us to do some really wonderful things. If you have a valid military ID, you and your family can get in free on military Sunday. Also, Senior Day is Tuesday the 23rd, and that is going to be free.”

Those wishing to come out and experience the new additions as well as the timeless classic events held at the fair can attend from Thursday, August 18th through the 28th.
