The annual Governor’s Derby Celebration is a long-running tradition and this year organizers say they anticipate ideal weather and a large turnout. It’s a tradition that goes back to 1936. Groups large and small have gathered at Kentucky’s capitol to celebrate Derby Day. Spokesperson for Governor Steve Beshear Kerri Richardson says a change in location has added some new flavor to the event."Last year we moved the celebration to downtown Frankfort and that allows folks to not only visit the downtown shops and restaurants but they will also be able to purchase some breakfast foods while they're there and visit some of the Kentucky crafts artists," she said.

The 2012 Derby Celebration will also offer entertainment, children’s activities, and plenty of food. Several local bands will take the stage in front of the Old State Capitol starting at 10 AM. The event begins at 9 AM and runs until 1 in the afternoon.
