Fayette County Health Department seeing a new commissioner come January

Fayette County Health Department

Starting in January, the Fayette County Health Department will be led by a new commissioner. Dr. Joel McCullough comes to Lexington after previously serving eight years as public health director and health officer for Spokane Regional Health District.

Dr. McCullough will step in to take over for Dr. Kraig Humbaugh who has served as Fayette County health commissioner since 2016. Humbaugh was the state epidemiologist for years prior to his time at the health department.

Dr. McCullough has an extensive history in public health. He served as medical epidemiologist for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and as medical director of environmental health for Chicago’s Department of Public Health.
