The American Red Cross of Kentucky is looking for volunteers and will offer
training sessions starting next week ahead of what’s expected to be an active fall.

The relief agency has been responding to wildfires on the west coast for the past two months and is preparing for a busier than normal hurricane season. Volunteers will be trained to either respond to natural disasters or work blood drives. Jennifer Capps heads the South Central Kentucky chapter in Bowling Green. She says volunteering takes a certain commitment.

“We are asking our health services volunteers to go out for ten days and our sheltering volunteers to go out for 14, so it is a large commitment. You have to be in the right stage of life or have your employer support something like that,” said Capps.

The Red Cross is requiring prospective volunteers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 before becoming certified. The first training session will take place August 30th and 31st. A second will be held September 8th and 9th and a third on September 11th. The trainings will be held virtually.
