A representative of a large drug treatment program serving eastern and central Kentucky expects opioid settlement dollars to have a significant impact on addressing addiction issues.
Under a proposed settlement announced Wednesday Kentucky would receive more than $460 million. The settlement is the result of lawsuits charging pharmaceutical companies fueled drug addiction and overdose deaths through the distribution of too many painkillers.
Matt Brown is senior vice-president for administration with Addiction Recovery Care. “I’m confident that these dollars will go to things like reducing the supply, improving prevention efforts across the state, and then also bolstering treatment efforts,” said Brown.
ACR operates more than 30 addiction treatment centers with both residential and outpatient services in 16 counties. Brown said on-demand treatment is available, meaning someone calling in can be picked up the same day and brought to a center. Brown said Addiction Recovery Care has some 1700 clients along with 800 employees.
