Kentucky Exceeds 2000 Coronavirus Cases For Only The Second Time

Responding to coronavirus cases exceeding far above 2000 across Kentucky, Governor Beshear Thursday said a concerted community effort is needed to help reduce virus spread.

The governor has stressed COVID-19 testing throughout the pandemic.  With 80 Kentucky counties in the red category, signifying the highest level of activity, Beshear said all need to be routinely tested. “Everybody ought to be thinking about getting tested every couple weeks around the Commonwealth right now and we have the capacity,” said Beshear.

Beshear reported 2,318 coronavirus cases and 20 additional deaths.

The governor is not suggesting any new mandates, but he said some local government officials had inquired about enforcement measures.  “And so we are looking at various options right now for localities that want to do some of the same enforcement as our labor cabinet would do, for instance, to help them with that,” explained Beshear.

The governor also announced a cost saving measure for bars and restaurants.  Beshear said the state’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is granting a 12 month fee renewal waiver to current licensees.
