Lexington And UK Police Partner To Patrol Student Social Gatherings

Lexington and University of Kentucky police officers will be patrolling neighborhoods around the campus Saturday, looking for violators of the school’s Student Code of Conduct.

The partnership, announced by Mayor Linda Gorton and UK President Eli Capilouto, is aimed at reducing the chance of coronavirus spread in social gatherings.  UK Police Chief Joe Monroe. “I think that this activity that we’re getting ready to undertake will have a big step in helping the neighborhoods as well as control some of these situations where COVID could be spreading or it could be they’re just not being good neighbors,” said Monroe.

Monroe said data gathered at social gatherings will be filed with the Student Code of Conduct office.  The UK police chief added the police activity will help the neighborhoods and hopefully reduce the spread of COVID 19.

Joe Monroe said the effort will focus beyond proper mask wearing.  The police chief said officers will increase patrolling the next two weekends during UK home football games.  The plan will be evaluated to determine if it will be used every weekend.?
