Governor Asks Parents To Avoid Traveling During Fall Break

Governor Beshear is urging Kentuckians with school children to think carefully about any fall traveling right now.  The governor reported 1018 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, the second highest one day total since March sixth.

Beshear says he’d like to see local schools pass on any fall breaks this year. “This is the virus that it just take one person making a bad decision and everybody around can pay for it.  So, very worried, and for my kids, I don’t think they need a fall break.  I just don’t this year.  I think we should lessen the days off because the days in are fewer too,” said Beshear.

The 1018 cases follow a record breaking week of COVID-19 across the Commonwealth last week.  State Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says improvements in treatment don’t affect the spread of the disease.  “Now we’ve had some improvements in hospital care and some improvements in treatment, but we have not had any massive break- throughs.  So, we are in a position that if we take our eye off the ball, we’re going to get in trouble real quick,” said Stack.

Beshear, meanwhile, reported 300 cases from Kentucky universities.  He said part of that count can be attributed to aggressive testing.  The governor also announced eight additional deaths Tuesday.?
