Despite High Case Numbers, Estill County Staying The Course On Coronavirus Prevention

Estill County is one of about ten Kentucky counties listed in the red zone, the White House Coronavirus category used to indicate the most significant spread of the virus.

Estill County Health Department Interim Director Candy McMaine says the message is continue to social distance, wear masks, and stay home if you don’t have to be out. “I do think that some people are staying home, I think they’re worried, especially older people, they don’t want to get out if they don’t have to.  But, then I also think there are those people that are not really concerned, so they just continue to just do things like normal or like what used to be normal I guess,” said McMaine.

McMaine thinks Estill County’s current level of coronavirus activity is tied to community spread, not any one particular situation.  The health official says students are currently scheduled to begin in-class instruction on October 19th.
