Earth Day In A Coronavirus World

Sierra Club Kentucky Chair Joey Shadowen says the current “Stay Home-Stay Healthy” mantra is certainly producing environmental benefits.  He said continuing a lifestyle with less driving and more exercise would save resources, cut down on pollution, and make for healthier people.

Environmentalists around the world will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day Wednesday.  Shadowen would like to see the focus on our planet expanded. “It would be nice to see if there could ever be an Earth Week or even an Earth Month.  You know we have several other holidays where we give more time to it. It would be nice to see Earth Day get that.  So, one thing Sierra Club’s been working toward right now is what’s called “Earth Day Live,” said Shadowen

Shadowen noted Sierra Club members in Kentucky have been working on clean water, forestry, and trail issues.

The three decade Sierra Club member added the virtual celebration of Earth Day will occur Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
