Outdoor Activities Suggested During Coronavirus Period

The step by step restrictions regarding public interaction during the coronavirus pandemic have driven many people indoors for long periods of time.  A Lexington Parks and Recreation official says there’s still opportunities for outdoor activities.

Parks and Recreation’s Michelle Franzetti said suggestions are fluid and could change day to day based on Centers for Disease Control guidelines.  But, a neighborhood walk is an option along with something which might peak the interests of kids a little more.

“We’ve created this really fun naturalist program and so we’ll have these checklists of different adventures for kids to go on and they’ll get to download a digital naturalist badge.  But, it can be more simple.  We can just suggest go for a picnic in your neighborhood park, if the weather is nice,” said Franzetti.

While all the springtime parks and recreation sports programming is canceled, Franzetti said playgrounds, tennis courts, and golf courses are open.    “You always have to be aware of those high touch places such as a gate to get in and out of tennis court and things like that.  So, we still think people should keep in mind those CDC guidelines, avoid touching your face, wash your hands as much as possible, those types of things.  But, you’re right, that’s something that somebody can participate while keeping social distancing,” explained Franzetti.

Franzetti noted although spring parks and rec sports have been canceled, no decisions have been made yet about summertime activities.?
