A Portion Of A Lexington U-Haul Storage Warehouse Collapses

A portion of a U-Haul storage facility off Leestown Road in Lexington collapsed Tuesday afternoon.  The cause of the collapse hasn’t been determined.  There were no injuries.

Fire Major Jordan Saas said the large warehouse was mostly empty, except for a few containers.  He noted the facility had not yet opened. “It’s a brand new company and they had not opened their doors yet.  So, they were still trying to get things moved around, things in place, which is a good thing because it could have been a whole lot worse had their actually been more people inside the building,” said Saas.

Saas said a demolition crew Tuesday afternoon took down a piece of the wall.  The fire official says the affected section was 150 feet long, 100 feet wide and 35 feet tall.?
