The state Office of Homeland Security will administer federal grants totaling nearly $3 million in 74 Kentucky counties. The money will be used for communications and first responder equipment plus infrastructure protection
The $2.7 million going to more than a hundred recipients like local governments, area development districts, and public universities is the same amount as last year. Office of Homeland Security Director John Holiday says that’s concerning, considering terrorism levels today, “It is obvious that the threat is increasing and the resourcing are decreasing and we just need to figure out, we need to apply more critical thinking in how we’re going to handle these threats in the future.”
Holiday says funds for infrastructure protection include everything from the energy sector to health care to water and waste management.?
