Rainfall Persist Across Commonwealth This Week

kentucky.com

Rain is continuing to fall in many parts of Kentucky. Buddy Rogers, with Kentucky Emergency Management, says so far, no formal requests for assistance have come from county governments.  He says residents are dealing with the third wettest spring on record.  "The ground is wet and has remained wet all spring and until we get a good solid week of sunshine, I think our water tables are gonna stay high and the ground is gonna be saturated,"  said Rogers.

Rogers says two major snow storms this past winter season served to boost the water table before the rains came.   He says county governments have been able to handle water concerns so far.  Rogers says water covered roadways are not the sole concern.  "If we have heavy downpours, accompanied by wind in these thunderstorms, the larger trees may be susceptible to toppling and things of that nature because the ground can't support it as it normally would," added Rogers.

Rogers says any break in precipitation helps in allowing streams to fall back into their banks.  But he admits it won't take much additional rainfall later this week to cause more flooding.?
