Songs in the State Senate

The Kentucky House and Senate Chambers aren't always restricted to partisan disagreements, resolutions or passage of legislation.  The last day of the 2014 general assembly also included some impromptu singing.

Five lawmakers of both political parties and a senate page gathered around a desk just before going into session.

Just moments after the rendition of Amazing Grace, Frankfort pastor Gary Hagger noted the singing during the opening prayer for the 60th day of the legislative session.

Lawrenceburg teenager Bethany Fugal was a senate page during the session. " Fugal says she's been singing publicly for about six years and never had a vocal lessen.

Her mother, Annette Fugal sat at the welcoming table down the hall from the senate.  "We are a musical family, the oldest kids did classical piano.  We lived in the west.  When we moved to Kentucky we did a total switch and went to Bluegrass, so we have kids that learned the mandolin and the banjo and I have an upright bass and Beth plays the guitar so we made a change so the second half of our family does this kind of stuff," said Fugal.

Bethany Fugal says she enjoyed her time as senate page.  The central Kentucky teenager said she met a whole lot of new people who are "really nice."?
