Flash Flood Kills One Person And Damages Dozens Of Homes In Nicholas County

One woman died and several houses were damaged after a flash flood hit Nicholas County.

Nicholas County Emergency Management Director Calvin Denton said damage was extensive.

“I’m 76 years old, lived here all my life and I’ve never seen water as high as it was last night,” Denton said.

A little more than four inches fell in Nicholas County on Thursday night into Friday morning, according to CJ Padgett, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Louisville.

“What’s also really impressive was that they received about an inch of rain at one point last night,” Padgett.

Emergency Management Director Denton said 10 to 15 rescue calls came in Thursday night. About 30 to 40 houses were damaged by the flash flooding.
