New Solar Panels Installed At Two Lexington Fire Stations

lexingtonky.gov

A renewable source of energy is helping to power two Lexington fire stations.  The solar solution went live about a month ago.

Solar panels have been installed at fire stations along Tates Creek Road and in Shillito Park.  Both facilities are well-suited for catching sunlight because they have southern exposures and the roof has the proper pitch.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said, quote, “Finding new efficiencies is always a priority for our city.  Over the long term, solar energy can be a good way to save money while also protecting the environment.”

The solar systems are expected to supply up to 40% of the energy required at each station.  There are no immediate plans to install solar panels on other government buildings, but other opportunities are being explored.
