Over the weekend, heavy rain fell across Kentucky. Most of the state received more than two inches of rain though several counties received as much as six inches.
On Monday, flood warnings stretched from eastern to western Kentucky. Kevin Sullivan with the National Weather Service in Jackson, Kentucky said travel should wait until waters subside.
“It’s really hard for emergency personnel to get around even to clear debris off the roads because we’ve had a lot of mudslides,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan says Sunday’s rainfall in Jackson is the most ever recorded on a single day in February in the office’s 40- year history. A state of emergency has been declared by Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
