More Rain Coming to Already Flooded Southeast Kentucky

Residents in eight Southeast Kentucky counties, already dealing with flooding issues, could experience substantial rainfall this week.

Kentucky Division of Emergency Management Director Michael Dossett said standing water remains in all eight counties.  Dossett noted many residents in flood impacted areas self-evacuate when necessary. “Most folks are well accustomed to flooding conditions down in Bell, Harlan, Knox, Whitley, so they have someone to go and stay with.  Unable to predict what it will look like for homes say on Thursday after we exit the rain event, but my hope is for lesser numbers,” said Dossett.

Dossett added assessment crews thus far have found damage to 25 to 30 homes.  He said almost unprecedented rainfall amounts in the five to almost seven inch levels have already been seen in some areas.

The state emergency management director said there have been no major power outages in the flood stricken area yet.  He added crews are assessing damage with the realization more problems could be coming with additional rains.
