High Winds Damage Madison County Historic Site

Eastern Kentucky University

A team is working to assess the weekend storm damage to White Hall Shrine in Madison County.  Eastern Kentucky University Public Safety and Risk Management Director Bryan Makinen said the National Weather Service believes 70 mile per hour straight line winds damaged part of the roof.

Makinen noted EKU facility services and conferencing and events personnel acted quickly.  “They responded and immediately began mitigating the issue that was presented to them and started moving furniture to safe locations within in the house that were in un-impacted areas.” said Makinen.

White Hall is the onetime home of anti-slavery newspaper publisher and politician Cassius Marcellus Clay in the 1800’s.   The state operated it as a state park for decades. EKU took over ownership of White Hall this past spring.   The building is closed right now for the winter season.?
