The city of Lexington is in the midst of a $600 million dollar federally mandated sanitary and storm water sewer improvement program.
Division of Water Quality Director Charlie Martin says while work this summer is likely to be in line with 2016, next summer will probably find work crews on roads like Wilson Downing, Tates Creek, and Avenue of Champions. “There will be some significant traffic disruptions because of the work that we’re going to be doing. Town Branch Commons, the first part of that project is to replace the sanitary sewer on Midland Avenue and we very may be in the middle of Midland Avenue replacing that sewer,” said Martin.
Martin says the federal consent decree regarding sewer improvements involves more than 80 projects overall. He says the “pencils down” deadline to complete the sewer upgrades is the end of 2026.
