Interest in Election Includes Kentucky’s International Community

With Election Day finally upon us, it doesn’t take much prodding to get commentary about the presidential race.  That includes those with roots in other nations.

Nana Turkson operates the African and Carribean Market in Lexington’s Eastland Shopping Center.  She has lived in the U.S. for over a decade.  Turkson expects to become a citizen next year.

If she could vote, the Ghana native says she would be in Donald Trump’s category.  She says right now America doesn’t need as she put it “all the stuff going on.” “They just need somebody to rebuild it.  And as a business person, at least he has more experience in it.  Maybe not in leadership, but he has more experience in it,” argued Turkson.

Making an international grocery delivery from Louisville was Jacob, who is backing Clinton.  “Now, I know Donald Trump is this and that and he’s a man and she’s a female, but with the experience she has, 30 years in politics, and it’s something new to him, I think I will feel more comfortable voting for Clinton,” countered Jacob.

Standing at the counter to get paperwork signed, Jacob asked if Turkson would be voting.  When she replied no, the delivery man, a Clinton supporter smiled and said “Good” as he left the store, seeing that as one less vote for Trump.?
