University of Kentucky Board Approves Budget And Sets Tuition Rate

Stu Johnson

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees has approved the school’s largest budget.  Almost half of the $5.1 billion dollar spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year is attributed to continued growth in UK HealthCare.

In his prepared remarks Thursday, UK President Eli Capilouto said hourly pay would go up for the fourth time in six years.

“We seek to answer the call to do more for those on our team who need it most by raising the minimum hourly wage to 15 dollars,” said Capilouto.

Tuition and mandatory fees for undergraduate and graduate students at UK will rise by 1%.  A new staff leave policy provides for two weeks to care for new children and one week for parental care.  UK’s overall budget has grown by nearly 90% over the last decade.
