Up to five candidates for the job of Fayette County Schools Superintendent are expected to be announced today. Marlene Helm has been serving as acting superintendent following the unexpected death of Manny Caulk in December.
Lexington’s NAACP has sent a letter to the school board expressing concern about community involvement. NAACP Education Chair Shambra Mulder asks why community sessions can’t be in-person instead of virtual. “When do we get to interact with that and why can’t we do that, and doing this time safety with the COVID rules that are in place at this time. They were able to do graduations, get back to school, and everything else. I don’t understand why we couldn’t do that for this,” said Mulder.
Two virtual community meetings are planned Wednesday and Thursday from 4:30 to 8:00. The school board has announced plans to have a new superintendent in place for the start of the next school year.
